Is your Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) up to date for 2026?

 

If you haul interstate freight, you must complete your annual UCR registration—even if your trucks never leave Maryland. Any shipment that begins or ends in another state (or passes through a U.S. port) requires UCR compliance.

 

Important: As of January 1, 2026, UCR compliance is now checked during roadside inspections.

 

Who must register? • For‑hire, private, and exempt motor carriers
• Brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies
• Carriers based in Canada or Mexico operating in the U.S.

Who is exempt? • Motor carriers operating only intrastate
• Private motor carriers transporting passengers for a commercial enterprise
